Volunteer
One of the most meaningful ways that you can help the fight against violence is to volunteer your time.
Last year, volunteers provided 11,569 hours of service. Without volunteers, we would not be able to offer
many of the services that are so essential for effective intervention. We invite you to join us in our
commitment to assist victims to cultivate healthy, safe, self-sufficient environments. You will learn
the skills you will need through our thorough and informative training program. Whether you would like
to work in direct support of victims or offer office support, we have a need that you can fill.
The Volunteer Program provides immediate assistance to victims of domestic violence through:
Hotline: Through our hotline, volunteers are often the first
line of support for victims who have been isolated by abuse. If you are a good listener, answering
the hotline can be very rewarding. Staff is always available to assist and support you.
Court Advocate: Court can be a fearful experience for victims
who are unfamiliar with the system. Volunteer advocates offer comfort and support while guiding victims
through the process of getting a restraining order. From filling out the paperwork to standing before the
judge, the advocate is there to lend a hand.
Rapid Response: During a crisis victims can be easily overwhelmed.
Rapid response volunteers meet with victims immediately following a crisis to lend support and assistance
with getting emergency restraining orders.
Child Advocate: The volunteer child advocates engage in creative
play activities with children in a safe, nurturing environment while parents are attending groups,
workshops or individual meetings. If you love working with children, this may be the perfect volunteer
opportunity for you.
Board of Directors: If you are interested in using your skills
and expertise to help govern the organization, the board of directors may be the place for you. It is
comprised of a group of men and women who oversee the organization in numerous ways: they monitor finances;
raise awareness about the mission and organization; raise funds; plan events; as well as assist with many
interesting and exciting short-term projects. For more information, contact
scdubus@jeannegeigercrisiscenter.org.
Administrative Assistance: Volunteers are always welcome to assist
with many office tasks including answering the phone and taking messages, copying, faxing, filing and word processing.
Special Events: Volunteer assistance is crucial to the success of our
fundraising events. In addition, volunteers enjoy getting involved in projects like “Food for the Soul” and
“The Giving Tree” programs in November and December, or helping with outreach in the community throughout the year.
